Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is the public transportation provider for the region. In Virginia Beach, HRT operates several bus routes and the VB Wave. Wave shuttles are an easy way to get around the Virginia Beach oceanfront and make stops along Atlantic Avenue, the Virginia Aquarium, Ocean Breeze Water Park, the Holiday Trav-L-Park and the KOA campgrounds on General Booth Boulevard and the Shops at Hilltop.

 Bus Shelter Improvement Program

In 2016, only 5 percent of the more than 500 bus stops in Virginia Beach have shelters. But that is changing. The City Council approved $668,000 to build 24 new bus shelters in 2016 and 2017 doubling the number of shelters throughout the city.

Regional funding in 2021 is also scheduled to add another nearly $400,000 toward bus stop improvements in Virginia Beach, including even more new shelters.
